Positive: The location is superb only steps away from a nice marina and about 7 min walk to an amazing white sand beach. The beach was so spectacular and deserted (last week of October) that we didn't feel like going to any other beaches in the area and stayed here for 3 days, swimming and sun bathing in the last days of October! Porto Ottiolu is a great base for exploring east Sardinia. There are some very nice hikes in the area and of course many more a short drive away. We went to Posada, visited the abandoned military base on Mount Limbara and hiked to the bottom of Gorropu canyon. All 3 trips are highly recommended - the views are absolutely spectacular and even our teenagers were impressed. As other reviews mentioned, the kitchen has everything for cooking and dining, including oil, salt, spices. The owner also provided some water, beer and Sardinia specialities as a welcome gift which was very nice. There is a washing machine and clothes dry pretty well in the sun on the balcony. All the washing liquids, soaps, toilet paper was supplied by the owner in good quantities so we didn't have to buy any of that. As well as the towels and bed sheet - we only needed to make our beds by ourselves. The owner, Alessandro, is very nice and all communication was easy via WA. He personally came to check us in and out. He takes a 150 EUR deposit in cash (it was mentioned on the booking confirmation) and then gives it back upon checking that all is ok. Big positive surprise was a balcony with a nice view - which wasn’t mentioned in the description. The bathroom is rather small and narrow, but it's clean and we had no problem with hot water supply or pressure. A nice cat came to visit us daily to much joy of my daughter. We really enjoyed our stay here and the value for money ratio was unbelievable for any European destination and esp. for Sardinia.
Negative: The apartment is quite cozy for 4 people with no living area to relax apart from the kitchen table and one armchair. The walls are thin and beds squeak, so every squeak of the bed is heard. But this is me being rather picky. This has nothing to do with the apt - but just to note - you definitely need a car here, esp. off season. First, tap water was announced by the mayor as undrinkable and not to be used for cooking either, so we had to buy lots of bottled water. Second, being off season (last week of October) - all the shops and restaurants in the port Ottiolu were closed and we went to Budoni (10 min drive) for all our supplies.
