Positive: I loved it. It's a beautiful charming, older ryokan nestled by the lush green mountains. The view from the traditional room with the tatami floor was enchanting. I felt like I was waking up inside a painting. There is a public onsen option and private ones. I only went to the private ones and never had to wait for one. I went to two of them so can only speak to those. One has a breathtaking view of the mountains with two baths so you can soak and just take in the beautiful surroundings. The other one's view is a bit obstructed because it's narrower and there are some plants and trees with narrower wooden fences but still quite beautiful. The onsens are spacious and so comfortable. The meals are beautifully presented and prepared. I stayed two nights and each meal was different. The staff were so friendly, lovely and helpful. They made the stay quite enjoyable and comfortable.
Negative: Only a few minor downsides. I ordered a massage and the therapist seemed rushed, even answering a phone call during my session and forgetting to finish one of my legs. It made it feel less relaxing and kind of rushed. She was sweet though and tied the yukata correctly for me. There was also a 300 yen charge for having the service in my room which I wasn't told upon reserving it, only when checking out so I think it should have been mentioned at the time of ordering the service. It's not much so not a big deal, but it's just good to know charges up front. The bathroom also ran out of soap. These are all minor compared to how lovely the stay was given the friendly staff, the beautiful surroundings, and charming ryokan.
