- Winter: trail side lodging to 39 km of xc ski and snowshoe trails and centrally located to 4 downhill ski areas: Stratton, Okemo, Bromley, and Magic Mountain.
- The Apartment at Viking Nordic Center is based in an old New England farmhouse that is a great example of ‘Vermont continuous architecture'. Located on the 2nd floor of a wing attached to the farmhouse, the apartment sleeps 8 in 3 bedrooms with 2 full baths. The apartment was thoroughly renovated, gutted down to the studs and completely rebuilt in December 2015; all walls, carpet, and furnishings save the refrigerator are new.
The apartment is reached via its own short staircase and deck. One enters into a great room with a living area, a full kitchen, and a dining table for 8. With soft leather couches and a large flat screen TV, the main room is perfect for relaxing after a long day outside. The kitchen area is compact but has everything you need, including a full sized oven and dishwasher, with the dining area immediately adjacent. A large stone hearth with electric fireplace/heater is the focal point of the room.
Off the kitchen side of the main room is a large (12’ x 16’) master bedroom (queen bed) and a full bath. The bathroom features a 48” wide shower and a full sized washer and dryer. Off the opposite side of the great room is a full bath (tub) and 2 bedrooms. One bedroom (10 x 15) has a queen bed and gets wonderful light through the 3 windows that face south and east, giving views of the mountains and the farm next door. The other bedroom is smaller (10 x 13) and holds a bunk bed, a trundle bed which can be either one twin, two twins, or one large bed.
Winter: sleep right at the trail head of Viking Nordic Center’s 39 km cross country ski and snow shoe trail system. Trail passes for each overnight member of your party are included in your rental. When you want to go for a ski, head out the apartment door, take about 10 steps, put on your skis and go. This is the ideal lodging for Nordic skiing families with young kids. Kids will enjoy our cookie reward program which encourages them to get out and ski more than they ever have so they can earn a cookie. But when they really need a break they can easily take a one in the apartment and when nap time is over head back out. New skiers will learn from our knowledgeable and patient instructors and can rent equipment from our shop, including pulks for pulling children too young to ski. Experienced skiers can explore our acclaimed variety of trails, offering both picturesque touring loops or for the racer, challenging training terrain.
Downhill skiers or riders, the Apartment is central to 4 downhill ski areas: Stratton (20 min drive) Okemo (25 min), Bromley (10) and Magic (5). Enjoy restaurants and shopping in either Manchester or Chester, both about 20 minutes away. For last second needs it’s less than 2 miles- about 3 minutes - to the nearest grocery and liquor stores. Located on a beautiful Vermont side road with mountain views there is direct access to Route 11 in one direction and Route 100 in the other.
PLEASE NOTE: Spring, summer, and fall the Apartment is only rented in conjunction with the Farmhouse at Viking Nordic Center. Together the Farmhouse and the Apartment sleep 18 in 7 bedrooms with 5 baths. The combination Farmhouse / Apartment is ideal for multi-family vacation groups, clubs, groups, or teams who want some separation within their group.
The Apartment and the Farmhouse are in different wings of the same sprawling structure. The Apartment and Farmhouse have separate entrances and one must go outside to travel between the two. (please see the building layout in the photo section)
To accommodate modern vacation schedules where part of your group may have to arrive a few days late or leave a few days early the Apartment may be rented out for just a portion of your Farmhouse stay. Apartment rentals have a 3 night minimum stay and only one abbreviated Apartment rental period per Farmhouse rental please.
Guests are invited to enjoy the 72 acres that the Apartment is situated on. In the summer enjoy morning coffee or a drink at night up on our south-facing deck overlooking our 3 acre meadow. The deck is big enough for all of your group to enjoy summer dinners together at the multiple picnic tables provided. And the deck is an ideal place to check out the star filled Vermont sky.
Explore the property’s trails. In the summer you’ll have access to 8 km of the ‘inner trails’. Imagine the games your group can play on 72 acres with 5 miles of trails cut through it!
Note regarding renting during ski season - the Apartment sits above the ski shop of Nordic Center. The Nordic center is only open when there is enough snow to ski. However, when busy, on snowy winter weekends, it can produce some noise between 9 am and 5 pm. The Nordic Center has very little traffic during the week. 2-3 times during the winter the Center hosts a night event or race; please inquire about those dates.
