Spacious and serene. Set on a peninsula with over 550 feet of Chesapeake Bay waterfront, this property offers luxury and acres of manicured lawn in a beautiful natural setting, yet it's less than 10 minutes from the historic town of Onancock. This home has all the amenities you'd expect. It is an ideal get-away for couples, family, and friends.
The house: This home features four+ bedrooms. Three are suites with attached baths and other features.
The entire second floor is a master-suite with a spacious bedroom that includes a king sized bed, a large walk-in closet, and three seating areas- one facing East overlooking the front lawn, the second facing West overlooking the rear lawn and water, and the third is a double recliner in front of a large wall-mounted television. The master suite includes a large attached office/study area with two desks, a fold out sofa (the "+" - it's ideal for parents with young children who they want to keep close, but with some privacy provided by a pocket-door), and several dormer seating nooks with custom cushioned benches and storage. Off of the office is a large master bath with a vanity including double sinks, ample storage, a large shower, and an infrared sauna.
The main floor is all one level with no interior steps or raised thresholds throughout. There are two bedrooms on the first floor, both with queen beds and generous storage provided by dressers and closets. One is a suite with an attached bath with a double sink, a large soaker tub, and a separate shower. For those who require them, removable toilet grab bars and a shower chair are available for use on premises. Just ask and we will have them set up.
The final bedroom an in-law suite that can also serve as a media room. It had a fold-out queen sofa, two full recliner chairs, a closet, its own bathroom, a step-down attached exercise room with elliptical and stair climber machines, and an outdoor patio with seating overlooking the lawn and the water beyond.
All bedrooms have ample storage, bedside lamps with USB charging stations and 110v outlets, and ceiling fans.
The living room, kitchen, and dining are semi-open and connected with multiple seating options including a large L shaped sectional sofa, a three seat kitchen counter/bar, a four seat gaming/breakfast table, and a dedicated dining area with a table seating six. The kitchen has ample counterspace. It vk tains a gas cooktop, twin electric convection ovens, a microwave, a refrigerator with water and icemaker, a double sink, and all of the usual expected gadgets. The living/dining/kitchen area features windows and doors that open to the front lawn and to the rear deck, which has additional outdoor seating and the gated Endless Pool swim spa area, and the rear lawn and waterfront beyond. Opposite the kitchen toward the garage there is a generous pantry and separate laundry room.
The property includes high speed cable internet, excellent mesh wifi, three large wall-mounted flat screen televisions, Spectrum cable, and Apple TV. There is three-zone air and heat. The property is supplied by excellent well water.
The house is situated on a peninsula at the end of a 1/3 mile long shell drive, and has 550+ feet of shoreline on Deep Creek with unobstructed views of water, forests, and fields, and past Deep Creek Marina to the open water of the Chesapeake Bay. You will enjoy sunsets over the water. If the night sky is clear you will see the Milky Way. The lawn includes a firepit with seating, and you can set up and use the included lawn games including croquet, volleyball, and badminton. Wildlife is abundant including bald eagles and seabirds of many kinds, deer, wild turkeys, etc. In season and at all but low tide you can fish and crab from the dock. Tide permitting, you can also use the adjacent boat ramp to put our kayaks (or your small craft) into the water and it’s a short paddle to open waters. There are two tide-clocks in the home to help you plan your aquatic activities.
The grounds are spacious with long sight-lines. They are secluded and remarkably serene. They are pleasant to stroll and include the 1/3 mile long private shell drive, which is owned by this property and shared with four others set well back from it. There are 2 ½ acres of manicured lawn, and 7+ acres of wooded land that is surrounded by a maintained grass walking path. One lap around this path is just over .6 miles. A lap around the entire property is just over .8 miles.
While the house and accommodations are modern, this property is part of a larger historic estate that predates the US Revolution and belonged to the Custis Family, relatives of First Lady Martha Custis Washington. It contains a small historic family cemetery that is fenced and gated and which we require you not trespass in. Additionally the owners have private locked storage in the master suite, as well as a detached and locked private workshop. The house is equipped with ADT security, and the only security camera is at the keypad by the front door. It is not intrusive and will only photograph the person arming or disarming the system using that keypad. The property has a personal weather station. The sensor array is along the shoreline. Please do not touch it. The weather station receiver and readout is in the kitchen. Guest access: This is negotiable. You will have access to the full property or, for a lesser fee, the first floor of the property. Please note the last paragraph in the general description describing three specific portions of this property that we request you not access.
Other things to note: This property is centrally located on Virginia's Eastern Shore a few minutes drive from the historic port town of Onancock, which was founded by the British in 1680. Onancock is a year-round residential community and is exceedingly walkable. It has art galleries, excellent restaurants and boutiques, a farmers market, a historic first-run movie theater, a play house, and is the departure point (via a one-hour ferry ride) to Tangier Island, itself a very worthy destination. Onancock is also the home of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society and it's museum, Ker Place.
Along Route 13 (and also just a few minutes away) are the towns of Onley and Tasley. These hold larger grocery and convenience stores, as well as an excellent independent book shop and an excellent local seafood market and a variety of restaurants and other conveniences.
The resort towns and beaches of Chincoteague, Assateague, and Cape Charles are all about 40 minutes away. The ferry to Tangier Island is 10 minutes away. The property is 180 miles- approximately 3 to 3 1/2 hours from downtown Washington, DC.
