Positive: The cottage was comfortable enough and had everything we needed. The majority of the house was clean to a good standard. The location is very picturesque with a pretty little garden and Craic forest literally on the doorstep. There is. Internet access and Sky TV available at the cottage, so I could still check in with folks at home, and it kept the teenagers happy. The kitchen window is great for bird watching as it looks out into the rear garden with a lovely view. It's a shame the summerhouse at the bottom of the garden isn't usable as it would have been nice to sit out there with a drink.
Negative: The location is very remote! It took us at least 20 minutes to drive to the nearest town of Hawick, so I would advise you to stop off and get supplies there before venturing down the narrow winding roads to the cottage. The cottage itself needs some tlc. On the surface, it's nice enough and quite comfortable, but there is definitely a damp problem, and no amount of scent sticks can hide that. The walls in the double bedroom were wet after a full day of rain, and there was black mould on the window sills. Cleanliness was good overall , however, more attention to detail is needed, e.g., the cutlery tray was full of crumbs and had dried milk in it. If you have good mobility and want a peaceful, no frills, away from it all stay and enjoy a good walk then this is the place for you. If you have a family to entertain and want to explore the Scottish borders more widely, then I would say this cottage is too out of the way for that.
