Positive: - It’s a remote isolated location that’s nevertheless quite close to Riga. You get privacy despite the house being placed opposite the host’s house. - The surrounding area is very nice. There’s a large field in front of the house and there’s a lake within a very short walk. Playground for kids with a trampoline as well. - kids enjoyed the mini pool table inside too. - the terrace at ground level is a versatile and pleasant space as well, even if somewhat worn. - Host was accommodating and provided a crib on request for no extra charge.

Negative: - Use of sauna and hot tub is not included in the booking.com price, even though it’s listed as an amenity. I have no complaint about it, because I asked the host about this before booking, but this seems relevant to future guests, and I wish it were better communicated on the listing. - Most “beds” are inflatable mattresses, which is not obvious from the listing. A couple of real beds too though. - The house is quite worn out throughout. This was probably a somewhat nice house a decade ago, but the condition is severely lacking for the price point (we paid more than 500EUR for a single night after additional fees and charges). Cracks in windows, windows glued shut with insulation foam (presumably for warmth in the winter, but we were there at the height of summer), prehistoric fridge with broken shelving, worn furniture, leaky plumbing, swing on the kids playground was absent, our toddler got a splinter in her hand from the playground, wooden planks were hanging from the roof on a single nail menacingly (to be fair, the latter could be explained by a severe storm 12 days prior), etc. - minor cleanliness issues - some dishes were dirty, cobwebs in the windows, questionable looking (and sticky!) staining on electric switches and outlets. - sauna is quite small, only fits 5 people at most. - not a big deal, but it was a surprise that the entirety of the indoor space available to us was on the second floor and all of the ground floor is reserved for the host’s use. This is not obvious from the listing.
