Positive: A place full of character. Lots of history about Edward Lear (The Owl & The Pussycat) and a garden opposite open to all. The house is 350 years old and unaltered so if you are looking for something modern this won't be for you. But, if you want to feel at home in Berat and experience a unique place to stay then choose here! Eduart (owner) cannot do enough for you. He picked me up from the bus station and found another friend to take me back. He was also able to arrange a driver for me to visit a winery (Alpeta) which meant I could also stay there for dinner which I couldn't do on an organised tour. There's a traditional Albanian breakfast every morning on the roof terrace (a lovely space) or in the main house with a lot of food! The house is located in Gorica - opposite the Mangalem side with the main attractions. This was a bonus as it's a few minuites to cross the bridge but this side has less tourists. It still has restaurants, cafes, shops etc but in smaller numbers. Many of the restaurants have gardens and offer beautiful views of Mangalem. The rooms have small windows with limited natural light. While this would normally be a problem for me, it wasn't this time. There is aircon in the rooms and light through the door or ceiling in some of them. There is also the roof terrace. I was rarely there during the day so this really wasn't a problem - don't let it deter you from staying.

Negative: Would be useful to have a few more hooks to hang clothes up in the room and some shade on the terrace
