3 Bedroom Cottage in Nabinaud, Pillac

Renovated from an old barn, this three bed cottage offers a contemporary feel with plenty of character and comfort. La Vieille Grange is one of a small cluster of cottages in L'Hammeau, just a couple minutes stroll from Longeveau.
There are two bedrooms on the ground floor, including a generous sized double bedroom with en-suite bathroom. There is also a twin room (or double) and a separate shower room / w.c. Moving upstairs, there is an additional twin (or double) with en-suite.
The open- plan kitchen / dining / living area has a large glazed window with double doors leading out onto a balcony. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fan assisted oven, gas hob, dishwasher and all of the utensils you will need for your stay. A washing machine can also be found downstairs. There is plenty of dining space for everyone, inside and out. The partially covered balcony enjoys views across the countryside of the Charente / Dordogne borders and basks in the sun from morning through to evening. A BBQ and sun loungers ensure you'll get the most from the long summer days.
The property is finished to a high standard. Many of the old oak beams feature prominently, yet blend in with the style and grace of the new finish. Guests of the Vielle Grange have access to the Hameau swimming pool, shared with the other few cottages in the cluster. Plus the the other pools and facilities at Longeveau are only a short stroll away...

Summary: After a series of rather stressful transport delays, it was really a joy to finally arrive at Longeveau, a rustic oasis in the middle of the rolling French countryside. The cottage is simply but tastefully furnished, unpretentious in its country charm. Impressively clean. The kitchen was well-equipped and I imagine perfect for rustling up lovely dishes to be enjoyed outside in the pretty private garden/BBQ area. As for us, nothing beat the simple wonderfulness that was a glass of chilled Bordeaux and some local cheeses out on the balcony at sunset - serenaded by crickets and frogs! Bliss. Whilst this is a 'holiday complex', to us it really didn't feel like one - really peaceful and private. A nice quiet bar with some excellent wines, unobtrusive and in keeping with the relaxed vibe of the place. A few golfers enjoying a post-game pint on the balcony. The staff are friendly, welcoming gems. There is a golf course, but this didn't affect our 'authentic French getaway' experience. Tennis courts - so good for sporty types. Also two swimming pools - a treat to have an early evening swim. Own transport definitely recommended. As we were on foot, we walked to stunning Aubeterre (a very doable two-hour round walk) and to St Severin for a bit o' cheese and charcuterie - unexpectedly good little deli-section in the Spar! For me this was a much-needed and relished peaceful getaway. We would have loved to have stayed longer...
