This stately colonial home was built in 1918 for a wealthy businessman who spared no expense to make sure it was the most elegant house on the block. Today, the wonderful details of this large brick home are still evident: the fireplaces in the living areas and master bedroom, the sun-filled solarium facing the lake, the skylights and stained glass accents throughout the home. And with the upgrades and renovations this home has received more recently, you will enjoy the best of the past combined with the conveniences of modern living.
THE SETTING...
Cumberland Manor sits directly on Cumberland Bay with breathtaking views of Cumberland Head and the Vermont mountains beyond. The house itself sits 100 feet back from Cumberland Avenue, a quiet lane in the City of Plattsburgh. You ll be less than half a mile from downtown with restaurants, shopping and the Farmer s Market. On the lake side, the property slopes down to an elevated lakefront deck and cabana where you can sunbathe and watch the boats go by. There are stairs down to the water, where there is a dock for fishing and a mooring about 25 feet from the shore, should you need one for a boat We also have a skiff on short to take you to your moored boat.
THE FOUR LIVING AREAS...
You can relax in one of four living areas: the Family Room by the kitchen with a large sectional sofa and 40" flat screen TV, the Library with a working fireplace, the Lake Room with its stunning views of Lake Champlain and a 70" flat screen Smart TV or the upstairs Sitting Room with a second fireplace.
The Family Room is the perfect place for the group to get together for breakfast in the morning and TV in the evening. The large sectional and two chairs will accommodate everyone. There s a large flat screen TV. There s also a dining table for breakfast, with the fully equipped and thoroughly modern kitchen just steps away. For more formal dining, the original dining room provides a great setting for special occasions.
For some quiet time alone with a book, you can retire to the Library, with its comfy recliner, Queen Anne chairs and a fireplace. A powder room is just around the corner in the hall.
The Lake Room offers a great view of Lake Champlain and also has plenty of room for the whole group. You can walk out onto the porch where you’ll find a dining set that seat eight and a fire pit surrounded by teak deck chairs. There s also a Wi-Fi enabled 70" flat screen Smart TV with expanded cable.
The Sitting Room is upstairs, and features its own fireplace. If you really want to get away by yourself, this is the place for you.
THE KITCHEN...
The chef in your group will appreciate the kitchen, with its double ovens, Sub Zero refrigerator/freezer, Dacor gas range and oversized microwave oven. The kitchen is also fully equipped with all the small appliances you might need, and a complete set of pots and pans.
THE BEDROOMS...
The Master Suite is spacious enough to spend the entire week there. The sitting room features a large fireplace. The master bedroom is vaulted and has a dramatic view of the lake. The king bed is a wonder, with intricate carvings and a headboard that is eight feet high. There’s a large flat screen TV in the media center, which is trimmed with stained glass. The en suite master bathroom has a Jacuzzi and shower.
The second bedroom has a Queen bed and the third bedroom has a full sized bed. These two bedrooms share a Jack & Jill style bathroom with a tub and shower.
On the third floor, you ll find the fourth bedroom, with room for additional aero beds with bed linens, for $150 each per rental.
