Historic Stone Home Under Bright Canyon Skies | House in Cortez

2 Bedroom House in Cortez
Backdropped by stunning sandstone canyons, this historic stone house transports you to a world of ranches, vineyards, archaeological sites, and wildlife galore. From here, launch an epic outdoor adventure or reconnect with loved ones in a peaceful, unique setting that will make you want to return time and again. Gaze at a perfect star filled sky with virtually zero light pollution and get up close to ancient Pueblo dwellings and towers. The discoveries here are endless!
You will be surrounded by beauty and peace on this 58-acre property nestled at the base of Sleeping Ute Mountain and between McElmo Canyon's magical sandstone walls.
The stone house was originally built in 1899 - check for the inscription above the balcony!
Since then, it has been fully renovated and a small extension added on to accommodate the two full bathrooms and the laundry area.
The master bedroom has one queen bed and two full beds (bunked), and the second bedroom has a full bed. Both bedrooms are equipped with desks and chairs.
Downstairs, the open plan living room and full kitchen will be the center of social life for the house. Post up on a stool at the bar and chat up the chefs, or lounge on the generous couch and catch up with your crew.
The adjoining patio is shaded by several enormous, old cottonwood trees and two beautiful apricot trees. It's the perfect spot to make a fire in the fire pit or gather everyone to eat outside.
In the winter, the giant wood-burning fireplace will have everyone gathered around telling stories.
PROPERTY
You will be able to witness epic sunrises and sunsets at either end of the canyon, and you just might catch a rainbow following an afternoon thunderstorm.
Guests are free to explore three acres of vineyards, several large fields, and a long creekfront.
These spaces are shared with deer, foxes, and many types of birds (cedar waxwings! blue grosbeaks! bullock's oriole! black-chinned hummingbirds! I could go ON!).
Occasionally, there are bear and mountain lion sightings as well.
