This beautiful house is a treasure chest of the stories and history of Mansfield and Lake Eildon. It was born near the township of Eildon in the mid-1800s and after providing a warm place to call home for some of our first settlers, it was carefully relocated in 1915 when the decision was made to build a damn in Eildon and flood the valley to create what we now call Lake Eildon. Yalim found a new home in the logging town of Mansfield, where it defiantly stood for the next 100 years until it was lovingly restored by Mansfield locals, the Taylor family. And what an amazing job they have done. Every moment of this house has a story to tell. From the brick shroud around the fireplace that were borrowed from the prison warden's chimney, to the custom designed feature trusses hand fabricated from repurposed steel and timber, and the 3 ton concrete island bench in the kitchen, Yalim is the custodian of endless tales of toil and innovation.
The house is an elegant amalgam of the old and the new with features of the original house proudly displayed and the modern extension of wood, steel and glass revealing itself as you move through the period hallway; a light filled atrium transition seamlessly binding the two distinct periods together to create a contiguous, logical and beautiful space.
Consisting of 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and with the openness of the modern extension, Yalim comfortably accommodates 11 and is perfect for 2 families. Large indoor/ outdoor spaces make it perfect for entertaining, and the manicured gardens provide quiet spaces for reading, napping, or watching the sun rise over the Blue Mountains….. It is amazing.
Yalim is to be enjoyed all year round. A 5-minute walk into the bustling main street of Mansfield, a 10 minute drive to the boat ramp at Goughs Bay, a 20 minute drive to Mt Buller ski resort and the snow fields, and surrounded by the beauty of the high country and alpine forest, Yalim has it all.
