Enjoy this exciting city without the winter crowds and visit the NEW PIER. Catherine's Cottage is bright, clean and classy. The inside is enhanced in an upscale coastal style with antiques and shabby chic pieces. Unlike many rentals, this one has a well cared for yard packed with colorful native Florida flowers. The big front porch is perfect for morning coffee. And the bungalow is just minutes to bayfront shops and restaurants. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Walk to dinner and shops. It is about 10 blocks. Walk to the water. It is about six blocks. In fact, you can see the water from the street. There are many restaurants, bars, shops, museums, theaters and festivals. Travel less than 15 minutes and you are at the gulf beaches with a variety of water sports. Even places like Disney are just a day trip away! SO WHAT IS IT LIKE? Catherine’s Cottage is a historic 1920 bungalow that has been lovingly preserved. It was on the St. Petersburg Candlelight Tour of Homes in 2016. HONNA, the Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association, selects eight outstanding homes in the community. Owners decorate the homes and one Sunday in December hundreds of people tour the festive homes at twilight with candles lining the entries. Original mahogany doors, glass doorknobs, many arches, heart pine floors, even original deco light fixtures. It is located in a quiet residential area that is also a designated historical district. Many of the homes are over 100 years old. Brick lined streets and shady canopies of live oak trees. Best of all, it is in immediate proximity to a city busting with dining opportunities, cultural venues, and entertainment attractions. And you can walk there. Stroll through the grassy parks along the water to get to town. There is even a sandy beach on the way, an aquatic center for swimming and a dog park. Easily accessible by car, are many nearby beaches. Some with honky-tonk tourist shops and burger joints. Some with miles of isolated white sand. Unwind. Fill your day with activities. Come home at night to the warm glow of this compelling little cottage. Some say it is in the best and most desirable part of St. Petersburg. People come from all around to live in the historic Old Northeast (ONE). The bungalow is a wonderful merger of old and new. Of antique and salvage, yard treasures to flea market finds. A little quirky. A little whimsical. It makes for a lasting memory. We’ve collected many cool pieces and created a custom look. Some call it shabby chic, some call it repurposed. Best of all, we put it together with an eye for detail. You will feel at home, not like you are in a sparsely furnished space of mismatched furniture. Wait till you see the funky coffee table in the living room. The owner has been collecting brass instruments for years; trumpets, French horns, flutes, cornets, trombones even a few car horns. Many horns with many dents. We call it character. They are all displayed in the custom-made clear box coffee table. Nothing like sitting your coffee on a glass top over a stack of instruments. Our dining room table was a rescue. From the trash. Old, with that ugly brown stain they used a 100 years ago. The base was ripped from the top, just to get it out of the door, to the trash. We found it in an alleyway. Our faux finisher friend transformed it. Look for it in our photo gallery. In the coral dining room. It is magnificent now as it sits near the old carousel mirror from the owner's personal collection. Then there is the brass chandelier, that is not brass anymore. It has that crackle chalk paint look. Oyster shells from dinner at a local oyster bar hang from the arms. We added starfish, too. Guess you could call that repurposing. The best part is the crystals. Classes it up. Speaking of the dining room, we just added a contemporary touch. We have installed a small Google Mini (like an Alexa). Listen to music while dining. You just verbally request songs, ask for weather reports, even recommendations for restaurants. It is like having your own concierge! Many of our guests rave about the front porch. In days gone by, when the house was young, it was that big welcoming front porch where you could chat with neighbors and dog walkers alike. Ours has the original tiles, slightly mellowed over the years. The ubiquitous porch swing is there, too. Except we jazzed it up a bit and painted it three colors that blend together. Everyone knows there is nothing like a nap on the porch. That comfy wicker couch is at your service, complete with pillows. At twilight, listen to the sounds of birds and frogs. Or, with a drink in hand . . . really relax. MORE DETAILS The bungalow has two bedrooms. Two bathrooms. Big 40” smart flat-screen TV in the living room. Easy to see from the couch and the rotating swivel chairs. Wi-fi, too. The old pine display case is packed with novels.. . if TV is not your thing. Many of our guests like to work from "home". So to this home, we added a small birds eye maple working desk, with a printer alongside. Classic vintage kitchen. Fully equipped. White shaker cabinets, white tile counters. Even a gas cooktop. Big butcher block prepping table has extra storage. Overhead our faux finisher put her touches on the shelf brackets. We call them courtly checks. The gurgling fountain in the backyard is tucked in a festive display of flowers. Another place to relax. Lounge chairs and umbrella make for a pleasant place to soak up sun. We even added a small gas grill for the nights you want to stay in. A brand new washer and dryer set is on the other side of the divided light French door in the garage. Keeps noise and heat out of the house. Just off the courtyard is a convenient carport if you don’t want to parallel park on the street. It makes bringing in the groceries a little easier. The garage is also available. Or, abandon the car. It is an easy stroll to town. We have bikes, too!
