3 Bedroom Place in The Vale of Grwyney, Abergavenny
Fforest farmhouse is a historic farmhouse in the Black Mountains above Abergavenny and Crickhowell in the Brecon Beacons National Park. It has been lovingly restored to combine character and style with modern comforts. With its peaceful location, Fforest farmhouse provides the perfect way to get away from it all.
Enter the solid oak front door and take the stairs to the first floor, where you will find yourself in the main living room, with high ceilings, stone walls and oak beams. If you can tear yourself away from the views of the mountainside across the valley or the birds feeding outside, light a fire in the wood burning stove or snuggle up in a window seat and lose yourself in a book.
The well equipped kitchen and large dining table give plenty of room to express yourself with good food, good friends and good times.
One bedroom with an ensuite shower room is off the main room, the other 2 bedrooms are on the ground floor, and share the master bathroom.
Every one of these beautifully appointed rooms has uninterrupted mountain views and lots of character revealing the history of the farmhouse.
Enjoy the beauty of the mountains by wrapping yourself in a thick spa gown and stepping out into the mountain garden where the wood-fired hot tub awaits. Ease away all your cares in the bubbles, while the swallows and house martins perform acrobatic flying displays overhead. After dark the experience becomes even more magical, as you turn off the lights and bubbles and in the warm waters soak in complete darkness. With the Milky Way spread out across the sky above, you may hear the sound of the resident owls calling to each other above the rush of the river below.
Take your meals inside or outside - the garden has been designed for socialising. Share delicious meals cooked over the fire bowl, or gather around the embers for magical evenings together.
History.
Built in the 1580's, the farmhouse has stood since the time of Queen Elizabeth 1.
At that time the farmhouse was just a single large room for livestock with a sleeping platform for the farmers above. Then in 1630 they got the builders in. The animals were moved into the barn next door and then two rooms were added, the roof was raised and windows were fitted. Instead of a platform, now there were bedrooms upstairs and living rooms downstairs. And that's how the farmhouse stayed for the next 385 years.
Renovations since 2015 have brought the farmhouse up to the highest eco building standards, removed unsympathetic additions and revealed the beauty of the original construction, including exposed oak roof beams and lime plastered walls.
Eco-credentials
All the energy used in the farmhouse is renewable: electricity is generated onsite by a hydro-electric turbine and solar PV panels, and heating comes from a wood pellet boiler.
The land
Fforest Farmhouse sits in 45 acres of Brecon Beacons National Park mountainside. While you are here, why not wander around the orchard and spot the honeybees working? Picnic in the wildflower meadows, explore the mature woodland and ancient structures. Are the ruins next to St Issui's Holy Well the remains of the hermit's home? You decide.
