Phoenix By The Sea 'hangs' majestically from the hillside overlooking beautiful Rendezvous Bay on the southern shore of St. John. This elegant, deluxe level accommodation features 3 spacious bedrooms all with en suite bathrooms and has unforgettable and inspiring views of Rendezvous Bay and the Caribbean Sea! The villa has been recently renovated and totally upgraded with new high end furnishing, finishes and appliances. The villa is very private, yet only a short 10 minute drive to the main town of Cruz Bay and 5 -10 minutes further on to many of the world-renowned beaches in the Virgin Islands National Park.
Enter this Caribbean-style tropical retreat through a gated entrance and down a stairway lined with native stone walls to the fully air conditioned great room where you will be provided with one of the most astounding ocean views through the full wall sliding glass doors. The great room features comfortable seating areas including a queen sleeper sofa in the living room, a gourmet kitchen with a native stone and granite breakfast bar which separates the dining room from the kitchen. The indoor dining table will comfortably seat 6 and the breakfast bar will seat two additional persons.
The ocean-side sliding glass doors in the dining area lead to the large upper deck where there is a covered outside dining area and the gas BBQ grill which, when used together can provide a special alfresco meal with a view not easily forgotten. The great room and upper bedroom sliding glass doors also open to the upper deck where there are other seating areas and the hot tub which are perfect venues for enjoying the ocean views by day and the magnificent star fields at night.
There are 3 full bedrooms each with en suite bathrooms and unforgettable, panoramic ocean views that are available from all rooms! The master suite with king bed and en suite bathroom with bathtub/shower combo and the Garden Bedroom with twin beds which can be converted to a king bed and an en suite bathroom with elegant, Caribbean styled walk-in shower are accessed through a set of French doors from the great room. The open hallway leading to these bedrooms is covered and lined with a native stone wall and lush tropical vegetation. The guest laundry is also located in an enclosed closet in this hallway. Both upper level bedrooms have individually controlled air conditioning and feature Cable TV, DVD players and sliding glass doors leading to the upper deck.
A covered stairway from the upper deck leads to the lower pool deck with its equally incredible views. Enjoy the refreshing in-deck pool or sunbathe on comfortable loungers on the lower deck. The third air conditioned bedroom is also located on this level and features Cable TV, DVD player an en suite bath with walk-in tiled shower, and screened sliding glass doors leading out to the pool deck. Summary: The location and views of this property are absolutely beautiful. Overall we had a very nice time. Stays on St. John are expensive but we were hoping that at the amount we paid, the property would be a little more put together. The two decks need attention, when we visited in December of 2022, the deck paint was coming up and flaking off and all the nails in each board were rusted. This gave us little faith in the integrity of the wood planks underneath. The second deck on the pool level was composite and in a little bit better shape. You could not walk on the deck barefoot. The third bedroom is on the lower level and is essentially a stand-alone structure from the rest of the house. This room was clearly utilized less often and had lots of dead and alive bugs. We ended up only using this as the bathroom closest to the pool. The hot tub only had half the jets working and the whole tub ended up turning cold and broke down halfway through our stay. We tried contacting the property management multiple times and left a voicemail but did not get a response, which was disappointing. The two main bedrooms cannot be accessed from inside the main house, you have to walk outside to access and the doors are next to each other, motel style. This became tricky as people walked in and out and inevitably let bugs in throughout the week. We tried hard to sneak in and out quickly and ensure doors were fully closed at all times but we were all covered in bites by the end of the week. Parking was parallel to the property and sufficient for our jeep rental. There are a couple very steep and almost blind turns to get to the property, a Jeep rental is necessary. There were plenty of beach chairs and beach towels available to use. The washer and dryer came in handy as well. There were ample plates, bowls and utensils and we did use the grill outside a couple times. The pool was very nice and we enjoyed using it daily. With a little TLC, this property, known as Phoenix By The Sea, and itโ€™s exquisite views would be a must stay.
