Quintessential Historic Island Home on the Channel near Clayton | House in Clayton

5 Bedroom House in Frontenac, Clayton
Locals reference this iconic Grand Dam Historic property as the 'most admired location' along the St. Lawrence River. We have been on the River for 3 generation and took on this property as a 'loving restoration' project for our family. Located on a 62 acre island with only 4 residences. This property is exclusive with 26 acres and private trails directly linking to the North side of the island for sunset views. Relax in the comfortable porch furniture on our 100' covered long porch with granite pillars while viewing ships. With options for seating and viewing ships and activities. Sunrise or moonrise, this is the place to be. This location offers the most protected docking with 2 docks and generous deep water. We are a direct boat ride to Clayton and our marina (Spicer Bay) unobstructed by shoals. You cannot beat this location, many fishing guides frequent our deep water. Our family and guests love hanging out on the 80’ main dock in Adirondack chairs while safely swimming across our private cove or to our sandy beach. We have 6 kayaks for our guests use. Built in 1900, once you enter and see the grand granite fireplace, you will fall in love. Currently registered on the NY State and National historical society. Porch with many comfortable seating options. The west end screened porch is ideal for extending the days into the night while sleeping or relaxing on the wicker furniture. We love having our morning coffee/tea and breakfast on the east end porch while watching the sunrise and the wildlife. Our hummingbirds love to frequent our porch feeders. You may be lucky to see an eagle flying by or watch the stars at night. Surrounded by pink granite, you will not be disappointed with places to explore.
The 5 bedrooms and extra large living room with 2 oversized couches and window bench seating that overlook the main channel. The large formal dining room with seating for 20+ people is a great spot for gathering and games. The 26 acres of private trails link this home to the backside (North facing) side of the island overlooking the Picton channel. Grab your favorite beverage and take a stroll on our trails through the woods to see a sunset on the rocks.
The large kitchen offers everything you need for a complete vacation. The pantry is conveniently located between the kitchen and dining room with an extra refrigerator for overflow. The back porch is another favorite spot for relaxing and barbecuing. We have sonos speakers throughout the 1st floor and high speed internet available.
note: We are offering our home to rent for 1 week due to our travel plans off-island. Due to the fire hazard and fear we request that all guests are highly vigilant. Absolutely no smoking. We will have updated pictures available asap of the interior spaces. We did not anticipate renting our home when we closed for the season last fall. You need to take our word that the property is exclusive and comfortable. Most of the furniture is antiques and the mattresses were all new when the property was renovated. This is a unique opportunity to stay in a Grand Dam River estate. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
