At Sleepy Bear Cottage, you’ll be treated to spectacular, pristine mountain views in a newly renovated, cozy setting with a large yard for outdoor games, grilling out, and relaxing around the fire pit. Our BIG tiny home is 30 minutes from the quaint mountain village of Brevard, NC —Western North Carolina’s Best Kept Secret. You’ll be tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Transylvania County. Land of 250 Waterfalls. Award winning breweries and great live music are just up the road in Brevard which is sprinkled with coffee shops and art galleries and incredible restaurants. We have a good cell signal and decent internet at our home, and while the space is small, you’ll be able to cook, grill, dine, enjoy a campfire and string up your hammock at our campsite overlooking Hogback and Toxaway Mountain. A neighborhood fishing pond and walking trails are a short walk from our front door. Explore the adventure course below our home and find hidden gnomes, fairies, and forest creatures hiding near the moss covered logs in the rhododendron tunnel. 2 bedrooms (step free access on the main floor) have queen beds. 1 upstairs loft has 2 padded cots and is accessed via a narrow staircase. Our home is near the private neighborhood trail that leads to a nice waterfall and creek splash and play area.
(Note the upstairs loft has very low ceilings-sloped ceiling and 5 feet at the highest point. Must crawl (yes, crawl!) through a small opening at the top of the stairs to get into the loft. In the summer, the loft in the daytime is hot! At night, it does cool down (just open windows and turn on the three fans!) but please be aware that the loft may not be a good fit for everyone!) Kids adore the loft space! There is an additional $50 cleaning fee if the loft is used. Dogs are not allowed up in the loft.
Trash and Bears---- Our house is in a rural area and there is no trash pick up. Guests are asked to take their trash to the nearby trash collection center. $3/bag for trash and recycling is free. The trash center is a pretty 5 mile drive from the house. detailed instructions for trash and recycling are labeled on the trash can in the kitchen. You can go to Brevard via the "trash drop off route" and it does not add any additional miles on the way to Brevard. If you are checking out on Sunday or a holiday, our housekeeper will take out the trash and recycling. Never, ever, ever leave trash outside!!! See bear safety information at our home!
Dog-friendly. $25 pet fee per dog.
Accessibility: We have an entry ramp for step free access into the house. The living room, dining area, kitchen, back patio, and primary bathroom are step-free and have 32 inch doorways and clearance. If you are making a 3 day or longer reservation and would like 32inch doorway access to the primary bedroom, just let me know. There is removable door trim and the door can be removed and replaced with a privacy curtain. With the door in place, the doorway is about 30 inches wide.
Water: We have a well with a water supply that has been tested for safety. Our home has a 30 gallon water heater. In the event of a power outage, well water can not be pumped to the house. We keep a supply of bottled water in our shed and if there is a power outtage, we can give you access to the shed.
