Quietly tucked away and newly converted farmhouse 'Ta' Marie' is located in
the peaceful village of Xewkija. This residence offers a warm welcome to
guests looking for some peaceful rejuvenation and time out.
The three bedroom farmhouse 'Ta Marie' has just been beautifully finished
by local stone masons, furnished to a very high standard and prides itself
with its unique features. Opening the main door of this property one will
be welcomed by a good size swimming pool surrounded by a deck area complete
with a stone bench, loungers, BBQ and a dining area equipped with all
amenities.
Entering the house on the ground floor one finds a fully equipped new
kitchen, dining, living area and bathroom.This space has two large arched
wooden doors overlooking the pool area. The living and dining area are
decorated with antique furniture and antique traditional collectibles. The
marble staircase built around an internal yard takes you to the first
floor . This staircase enjoys loads of natural light coming from windows
decorated by traditional wrought iron which are handmade by an old local
blacksmith.
On the first floor there are three bedrooms .The main bedroom has a large
en-suite while the other two bedrooms are serviced with a main bathroom in
the corridor between them. All three bedrooms are fully air conditioned (function with the coin meter -pay as you go system) and
have balconies and windows overlooking the pool. These bedrooms were
planned and decorated by an interior designer and all furniture was done in
Gozo by local craft carpenters.
Leading up from the same staircase to the roof terrace one finds a large
terrace equipped with loungers, stone table and a bench which is sure to
become one's favourite spot to sit and catch the day's sun rays while
enjoying a glass of local wine! From up here one can enjoy panoramic views
of our island such as the Citadel (Gozo's old capital city), views of the
unique Xewkija Rotunda church and landscape of all the Gozitan villages.
Ta' Marie is situated within a short walking distance of the village square
of Xewkija with it's good selection of restaurants and other amenities,
very close to all amenities including supermarkets, a nearby cafeteria and
pizzeria, restaurants, fish and meat shops, local wine bars and small
grocery shops.
Xewkija lies 3 kms east of Victoria. It's name is derived from the Maltese
word 'Xewk', meaning thistles or thorns. It is dominated by a huge Rotunda
church completed in 1971 having taken around 20 years to build. It was
built to rival the Mosta Rotunda in Malta which it exceeds in height, but
not in diameter. The dome is larger than St Paul's Cathedral in London,and
can hold a congregation of 3000 people- around the entire population of
Xewkija. It is also a few minutes walk away from Mgarr ix-Xini, a very
popular beach with locals and divers .Mgarr ix-Xini is one of the most
famous spot with divers and last summer, the movie 'By The Sea' featuring
Brad Pitt and Angolina Jolie was shot entirely there.The Maltese
archipelago lies at the centre of the Mediterranean, consisting of three
islands: Malta, Gozo & Comino with a total population of 400,000. The
relationship between the Islanders and the various nationalities that
occupied Malta over the centuries has created a marriage of styles and
traditions, giving the Islands a fascinating culture.
GOZO, or GHAWDEX [Awdesch] as it is locally known, lies 20 minutes away by
ferry from Malta. Measuring about one third the size of Malta it has a
character quite distinct from Malta. Flat-topped hills and intensely
cultivated fields characterize the landscape whilst the coast has rugged
cliffs, steep valleys and beautiful inlets. Baroque churches and old stone
farmhouses dot the countryside. Agriculture and fishing still form the bulk
of the island's product. The landscape is a mosaic of miniature fields
lovingly tended. Traditional luzzus, the locally built boat, are still put
to sea from the harbours and coves. Local fish, fruit and veg could not be
fresher.With mostly sunny weather, expansive beaches, a thriving nightlife
and 7,000 years of history, there is a great deal to see and do. With a
little help from any guidebook, captivating places of interest are
immediately identified!
