Summary: You have to remember that You are in effect staying in a Museum ; there are not that many rooms but they are very clean and charming and resonate the feel of how it was to stay there is the 1914-18 was and since.
So the bathroom facilities are shared in as much as You leave Your room and go across Your short landing to very clean toilets and showers ; each room has a washstand as well.
The breakfast is continental but a cooked breakfast is available and there is fresh tea/coffee/ scones with cream and jam all day long.
a very detailed museum of the House is on site and free entry to those who are staying as well as an interesting gift shop.
Well sited for Restaurants and other local sites and around 15/20 minutes from the Menin Gate where the last post has been played every night since the end of the first world war-apart from two years in the second war when the Germans would not allow it.
This is a very moving experience and not to be missed.
The house has a lovely garden as was used by so many soldiers resting from the Front as well as some quiet inside rooms to contemplate on the history of the house as well as a very peaceful chapel that is another place to sit and contemplate on what this house offered to these many young soldiers who often arrived direct from the mud and bullets of the front line for a few days rest.
My expectations for Our two night visit were more than met by Ourselves and Our travelling guests. Unmissable I think.

Summary: Talbot house was a rest home for allied military members in WW 1. History lives here. Extensive walled gardens with large trees, flower beds & walkways. Small museum on site. Mix of volunteers and paid staff look after you. Close to Menin Gate & Canada's Brooding Soldier. Very cool spot to have stayed at and Poperinge is a lovely town.

Summary: A living piece of history and what a fabulous experience to be able to stay and be part of history. For anyone exploring WW1 history this is a must - you are staying in part of it. The hotel is run by wardens who are so accommodating. Long may this run so others can experience this very touching part of history

The room was very clean and comfortable. Lovely to have information about the house in the room for us to read at our leisure.
