The Kyoto Barn -Treehouse | Cabin in Middle Pocket

3 Bedroom Cabin in Middle Pocket
Kyoto Barn DETAILS
Welcome to one of the most spectacular locations in Byron Shire and Australia
The view is breathtaking.
Drive up to the top of the mountain for 3kms in an all-terrain vehicle (4WD) ... or walk. The road up the mountain is very rough so a 4 wheel drive and good driving skills are required to reach the pinnacle.
*Please bear in mind that you will require a 4 x4 if staying more than two days*.
This is off the beaten track, wild bush mountainous terrain, hilltop station with an old farm building that overlooks the ocean and a deep jungle valley below, surrounded by the Inner Pocket Nature Reserve.
The Barn was the first building built in this location in 1976 here by the early settlers. It was built in a time where creative and owner built styles were tolerated.
*YOU ENTER AND USE THE FARM BUILDING AT YOUR OWN RISK*..
This is NOT five star accommodation.
Experience a fully-equipped off-the-grid, hilltop jungle Safari 1/2 hour from Byron Bay and wake up to the Golden Sunrise.
Wake up in the morning as you gaze over the pacific ocean, perched on top of a mountain. You will be the first to see the sun in Australia! There lies here in this secret forest, a mountain top home, the 'treehouse' of Kinabalu (farm).
Surrounded by a Rainforest Sanctuary & National Park, you have absolute privacy and one of the most extraordinary locations of the area and in Australia. If pristine walks into old-growth forest & wild beautiful nature or swimming in the waterfalls is your thing...this is it.
Come plant a tree if you have a green thumb. We have many seedlings
BEDROOMS
In the old Barn there are two bedrooms. The main suite occupies the whole top floor with its own lounge and bathroom attached. The lounge there can be made into a very comfortable bed for a single. Downstairs exists another bedroom as well as also there is a a fold out couch that converts into a bed if needed in the downstairs living area.
BATHROOM
A shower & toilet is available here with another on it way. The shower is an outdoor garden type built into a tree trunk, or you may like to take an Epsom salt bath inside, in the old antique enamel bathtub.
INTERNET
You'll also enjoy full connectivity ADSL internet, a large range of books, well equipped cooking facilities, a yoga deck, and a view that's hard to beat.
PLEASE NOTE
Be prepared as you would as if you are going camping. In legal terms it is defined as a GLAMPING CABIN AND IS *UNAPPROVED* as habitable building.
This accommodation is RUSTIC, SIMPLE & BOHEMIAN in nature, in a building that is home made and NOT completely finished.
Please note you are in the middle of wild nature here so be prepared for lots of wild critters. They are a part of the experience. Ie insects, mice, possums, and snakes etc. we do our best but they are around and some folk are not used to them.
THIS IS NOT 5 STAR accommodation, though we aim to please, there is still much to do. The photos reflect the attributes of the interior though garden area outside the OLD BARN is still very basic and unestablished, with some building materials stacked around the side at this stage, and no sealed pathways OR RAILINGS.
*** Having full mobility is essential for your safety in this environment, and is not suitable for the elderly or young children without constant adult supervision.***
Please bear in mind that the terrain is wild and this is NOT an urban environment. You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness to appreciate the nature of Kinabalu.
Walking trails are bush tracks and to all intents and purposes must be considered a 'primitive camp site'. IT IS TO THIS DAY DEFINED AS A NON HABITABLE BUILDING but rather a ‘glamping’ cabin.
Be prepared as you would as if you are going camping in the wild.
PLEASE NOTE
Please note the facilities are rustic and simple in an unfinished farm building.
You enter this AT YOUR OWN RISK.
This is NOT your typical eco resort. It is closer to Glamping.
Bring your food and comfort requirements, I suggest also an umbrella, a torch, and appropriate walking shoes not to mention some mosquito repellent.
Also be aware this is a hand built home, off the grid, constructed on top of a mountain in the middle of dense wild forest and mountain terrain. It was challenging for the early settlers to create this building in such an extremely difficult location.
We are totally off grid and use solar to supply our power. There are no concrete pathways, railings on decks, just natural bush tracks and a most welcome rustic charm. :)
Please be prepared with the appropriate attire, wet weather gear and make sure you are fit enough to negotiate steep, uneven and sometimes slippery ground.
TRANSPORT
Bear in mind the location is on top of the mountain and the road is rough so all transport to and from the pickup point is provided on arrival and departure if required. If additional transport is required to and from Byron Bay or the airport, a fee of $75 each way is required. Additional transport can be arranged for a fee.
PETS
It may be possible to bring your pet, please ask at time of booking.
Please bear in mind that we use other listing agencies and the Barn has become very popular. This listing agency does not hold all the reviews so what is listed here is very limited.
