Positive: We spent a lot of time looking for reviews of this apartment on different sites before we booked but none were available so we knew we were taking a chance booking this accommodation and I did have some concerns about the lack of information I could find about it or the local area. These are our impressions after a week there: The apartment was in a beautiful, quiet location, and definitely had some of the quietest beaches we found in Sardinia in August with some lovely beach bars. This is definitely a very unspoilt and serene area of Sardinia. The sea views from the apartment were lovely and it felt very safe. Communication from the owner was very good and she gave us recommendations before our trip and helped resolve some issues while we were staying by kindly buying us pizza at a nice restaurant. The aircon was strong and ducted through the apartment. Pool was clean. Lovely restaurant on site called Shardan with very friendly staff and lovely Italian food. It was a short 12-15 minute walk to a beautiful sandy beach and there were rocks even closer to walk to and swim and snorkel from. The beds were comfortable and the furnishings in the apartment were pretty. The owner kindly left a packet of pasta, a jar of pasta sauce and a bottle of water for our arrival. There is a lot of development going on nearby to the site and the area seems to be being developed but there was no building noise or traffic in August.
Negative: The accommodation is set out rather like a caravan site due to the proximity of accommodation around and is very basic. Although the description states 'private pool' please note this is NOT a pool for the apartment only. It is a shared pool with the 2 neighbouring apartments. Please note the pool guys attend daily and put chemicals in the pool so it is out of use at times, and unfortunately during our stay it was shut for 2 whole days which was disappointing. The photos show the apartment as a low level building but be aware this is actually 3 adjoining single storey apartments, you do not get the whole building, and this apartment is in the middle of the 2 others so it is the smallest apartment. If you have noisy neighbours you do hear them, although the bedrooms are quiet at night. Ducted aircons cooled rooms unevenly so one of the bedrooms was very hot at night and the other very cold. The hot water did not always work, but this was fixed within a couple of days. The apartment faces east and there is no shade at all, not even a parasol. Also no shade around the pool-tricky for younger children. There is also no gate to keep small children away from the pool. The apartment would work best for 2 adults as there were only 2 sun loungers, 2 wine glasses etc (even though there were at least 9 saucepans!) There was absolutely no washing up liquid/ cleaning sponge/ olive oil/ milk etc so you need to plan in a trip to the supermarket pre arrival and there are a couple nearby. There is no kettle. It is hard to find the apartment as we were sent a video of directions which was not useful, an apartment number was more useful and obtained with some probing. Be aware it is a very quiet area and although there are boat trips you can book from Arbatax, this is a 45 min drive away. We were not informed about tourist tax until the day of our arrival, which was 42 euros for a family of 4 which had to be paid in cash.
