The Farmhouse, as our family lovingly refers to it, is located on Grindstone Island in the St. Lawrence River. It is a 10 minute boat ride from Gananoque, Canada and 20 minutes from Clayton, New York.
A charming four bedroom home with views of protected freshwater wetlands and working farmland. Cattle roam in distant fields and vegetables flourish in the garden throughout the spring and summer. Our home is located on the north side of Grindstone Island in the St. Lawrence River.
The house is secluded, accessible by boat or down a long dirt road with over 650 acres of protected fields and woods that are perfect for walking, mountain biking, and excellent birding.
There is a large lawn, vegetable garden and flower garden. During your stay, the Property Manager will bring you baskets of whatever is in season. There is an 80 foot floating dock and boat house that will fit two medium-size boats. Perfect for swimming, fishing, and sunning. A canoe and kayak are included and are ideal for exploring on the water and wetlands.
The house is equipped with 2 full size refrigerators and 1 separate freezer. Fast Wi/Fi, Smart TV, whole house automatic backup generator and central A/C & Heat for the private ground floor master suite, kitchen, and living room. Guest bedrooms have window A/C units. There are 2 large decks, a large inviting living room, kitchen, and dining room perfect for gathering.
Grindstone Island is easily accessible by boat, barge if you wish to bring your car, or by water taxi.

Summary: We had a wonderful time with friends and family at this beautiful home on Grindstone Island. It is in a lovely location - on a bay with great swimming, close to a marsh that is perfect for kayaking, canoeing and bird watching and with full access to Grindstone, our favorite island in the thousand islands. The house itself feels welcoming, homey and intimate. The flower and vegetable garden were an added bonus - fresh tomatoes, squash, chard every day. The owners and property manager were wonderful to work with. We felt incredibly lucky to have found this spot.
