Chenin | Sleeps 4 | Manoir Les Touches | House in Doué-en-Anjou

2 Bedroom House in Concourson-sur-Layon, Doué-en-Anjou
Located within the grounds of our 16th Century Manor House alongside Anjou and Bonnezeaux, Chenin offers cosy rustic accommodation suitable for a family or couple. This was the 2nd outbuilding we renovated back in 1994 and it was originally a cellar. It was renovated to create the welcoming 2 bedroomed cottage it is today. It’s metre thick walls and double glazed windows and doors provides a cool respite from the summer heat or a snug retreat for early or late year holidays. The front door opens into the main hall, giving access to the two bedrooms and bathrooms and passing on through to the living area. The master bedroom with a queen size bed has it’s own private shower and toilet, whereas the other shower room and toilet gives private facilities to the 2nd bedroom occupants. The 2nd bedroom has the option in sleeping accommodation of a queen size double or twin. The living area offers a kitchen/dining area with a comfortable sitting area too. The Cottage boasts a lovely covered back terrace offering ‘al fresco’ eating at its best. The terrace which enjoys afternoon and evening sun is also well situated to enjoy the wonderful sunsets over the surrounding rolling French countryside. Guests have access to a laundry room (with 3 washing machines) an indoor games room, a heated covered shared swimming pool ( normally available from the beginning of May to end of September) and outdoor child's play area. There is also the grounds giving space to relax or children to play. A new spiral garden has been planted in autumn 2017 for our guests wanting to sit amongst the plants in our newly erected kiosk. The owner is available at any time for any queries and lives on site and is there to help you throughout your stay. The Loire has proved an ideal location; an easy drive from the ferry and Eurotunnel ports but also very accessible from international airports, whilst still providing a tranquil rural location. We are ideally located to visit the many fabulous chateaux and vineyards in the region. The Loire Valley is referred to as the 'Garden of France' due to the abundance of vineyards, fruit and vegetable orchards which line the river Loire. This stunning part of France is noted for its historic towns, architecture and wine. The Loire Valley wine region is world-renowned for the production of distinctive fruity crisp wines. The area is also known for it's 'bubbles' with any of the local vineyards and sparkling wine houses offering excellent wine tasting tours. The entire area is a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its exceptional cultural landscape of historic cities and villages and of course the stunning architectural monuments - the châteaux; the legacy of its time as home to the French royalty for a century and a half. The River Loire’s width engages a real feeling of space and freedom even during the peak summer tourist season and offers plenty of family-friendly outdoor activities whether you fancy cruising or canoeing/kayaking on the water, cycling along the banks of the Loire or exploring ancient cave dwellings. The fabulous Bioparc (Zoo) in Doue la Fontaine approximately 5mins drive from us, is well worth a visit. The Zoo was originally created using old limestone quarries and underground caves and is now home to a variety of exotic animals including big cats, rhinos, penguins, reptiles and vultures to name but a few. It is very well known for its conservationist approach and is home to many endangered species. Its uniqueness has won over many of our reluctant guests! Another one of the pleasures of visiting the Loire is to enjoy wandering through one of the many traditional French markets! You’ll find wonderful local fruit and vegetables alongside cheese, bread, patisserie and much more for you to pick up for your alfresco lunch/dinner. We are located in between two major towns; Saumur, a short 20mins drive, is a beautiful riverside town with it's recently restored chateau which majestically overlooking the river Loire and quaint pedestrian precinct. Saumur offers an excellent selection of restaurants providing an ideal opportunity to enjoy the town's ambience. Saumur is also home to the Cavalry and the famous 'Cadre-Noir'. The latter offering performances as well as other events and tours. Angers, the capital of the Maine et Loire department is 40 mins away, It is steeped in history and character, whilst providing many more amenities typical of a larger city. The shopping in particular is fabulous, with well known French department stores as well as a number of other major leading fashion chains. House towels and linen are provided but please bring your own swimming towels. Adequate end of stay cleaning is expected.
