Positive: We were visiting for a family function being held in the South Lodge hotel, which is just a 10 minute walk through the back garden gate and up the field, past the vineyard. Our weather was extremely good so sitting outside the French doors, enjoying the beautiful garden and the surrounding countryside was particularly enjoyable - especially the birdsong. All the facilities (inc shower, towels, etc) and equipment is top-notch. Nice to have tea and coffee, available. We would happily consider staying again, if in the area, and to recommend it to friends.
Negative: The following comment is really advisory, and its appropriateness will depend on your circumstances. It's clearly expected that you would be eating out (pub a short walk) or maybe microwaveable ready meals. The website is very explicit about what kitchen equipment is available, so no misrepresentation, but things you might suppose are implicit are not. For us the description "a fully equipped kitchen with a coffee machine and microwave" suggests "normal" things like an oven and/or hob can be taken as read, but were not. We were mostly visiting family, so this wasn't a major issue, other than our plan to make some pasta and sauce on our arrival turned out not to be an option. If you do plan to use the microwave to "cook" food (ie not ready meals) then it would be advisable to take some appropriate utensils (eg pyrex or plastic bowls of a suitable size). Some croissants were provided and were very welcome but, ironically, the packaging suggested they would be best eaten hot, and had instructions only for a conventional oven. The thick duvet was an issue given we were in a heatwave.
Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable stay in lovely surroundings.
