Summary: Valโ€™s house is very comfortable and well equipped. It gets warm in the afternoon but catches lots of sea breeze. Communication was easy. Val lives across the road and was very friendly and checked in on us to have sure we had everything we needed. It was a great stay.We were mainly in Kaiteriteri as a base for day hikes in the park which worked well. One day we walked in from Marahau (a 15 min drive) to Apple Tree, which was just ok. The walks and beaches are nicer further inโ€”so it is as better to get a water taxi to Bark Bay (or Tonga Quarry) and hike to Awaroa to get picked up. Although the taxis are expensive, those were nicer hikes and beaches. Be aware of winds in the afternoon can make a choppy return trip.Our only issue with the house location was the walk down to the beach is kind of a steep haul and involves a stretch walking on a narrow and winding road with no shoulder. There is some traffic in summer, so I would not be comfortable with kids doing it alone and would not want to do it myself after dark. Just something to be aware of if you plan on mainly using the Kaiteriteri beaches.
