Hundreds of acres of beautiful woods and lakefront surround this property. Short drive to Detroit Lakes beach, Cormorant Village, Pelican Rapids, and Pelican Lake area, including Zorbaz!
Guests will have access to the entire house and all of the grounds. This includes a tree house on an adjacent lot and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails through the woods surrounding the cabin.
Interaction with guests is next to none. Our family does have a small dock with a boat on a neighboring lot which is occasionally used in the summer months. We access the lot via the same driveway, but use a private trail to get to the boat, minimizing any potential disturbance to you as guests.
This cabin is located on beautiful Franklin Lake. It is positioned back in the woods on the most private lot around. Franklin Lake is a large lake just 6 miles North of Pelican Rapids and about 15 miles South of Detroit Lakes. Near other major lakes such as Pelican, Lida, Crystal, and Lizzie. Franklin is a great fishing lake, most known for its bass fishing, but also good for walleye and panfish. Short drives to Pelican Rapids, Detroit Lakes, Cormorant, and Pelican Lake.
We offer a kayak, canoe, and paddleboat for our guests to use in order to get around the lake. The cabin is located just 5 min from Lakeland TrueValue store and Cornfield Cafe. 15 min drive to Zorbaz on Pelican or 20 min from Detroit Lakes.
The home features some animal taxidermy mounts on the main floor.

Welcome to Franklin Lake, our home away from home on the south bay of beautiful Franklin Lake. This welcome book is intended to help you get acquainted with the area and our home. We've downloaded our 15 years of area knowledge for you to enjoy! Favorite restaurants, golf courses, activities, and more. Along with our area guide you'll also find everything you need to know about our home. From air conditioning to fishing supplies. You will find a bound copy of this guide in the home, which you are welcome to take out with you during your stay so you don’t need to print this out.
Our Home
We have sought to equip our home to a high standard and to anticipate your needs by providing all the things you might want for a luxurious stay. Hair dryers and pool towels are provided as standard and a washing machine is available so that you don’t have to worry about luggage restrictions.
Our philosophy
You want to have a wonderful vacation and we want that for you too. We believe that when you are here this is your home for however long you are staying and that you will be relaxed, comfortable and happy.

The house has wifi and you will find the login details in the welcome packet as you enter the cabin.
CHECK-IN TIME
Check-in time is 4pm. We can sometimes arrange an early check-in so please contact us if you will arrive early and we'll do our best, without any promises! We suggest you refer to the section on what to do if you arrive early - there is plenty to keep you entertained!
DRIVING DIRECTIONS
If you are arriving via car and have a GPS system in the car, please use 45737 Executive Drive, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572. The cabin is situated back in the woods at the end of Executive Drive. Once on Executive Drive, it may look like the road is ending, but continue to drive back into the woods, you cannot go too far! Once you are at the end of the driveway and the road stops completely, you are there. Please drive slowly down Executive Drive, the neighbors get very frustrated with people driving fast, and they will stop you and tell you to slow down.
PARKING
Outdoor parking is available on site on the concrete driveway and along either side of the gravel driveway leading to the house.
DEPARTURE INFORMATION
CHECK-OUT PROCESS
When you leave, please ensure the following simple tasks are done:
- take the garbage out and set it in the shed across from the garage (leaving garbage outside will attract racoons and other animals)
- ensure the air-conditioning is set to 85F
- run the dishwasher
- strip beds and put in laundry room
- put towels in laundry room
- bring deck furniture cushions inside

CHECK-OUT TIME
Check-out time is strictly 10am. Should you require a later check-out we will do our best but you need to let us know beforehand. If we have guests arriving that day it will be almost impossible to offer a late check-out due to the cleaners needing to prepare for those guests.
CLEANING
You will find the house clean on arrival but please let us know if you are not satisfied. During your stay, there will be no cleaning service. You will be responsible for all cleaning duties during the entire course of your stay. On departure it would be helpful if you could leave the house (particularly kitchen contents and bbq/grill) clean and tidy when you leave. You will find cleaning supplies underneath all of the sinks in the house. We do not assess a cleaning fee for guests, so if you would leave the place clean when you leave, that would be greatly appreciated.
ABOUT THE ACCOMMODATION
APPLIANCE INSTRUCTIONS / INFORMATION
AIR CONDITIONING
Our home has the benefit of air conditioning. You will find a thermostat on the panel on the North wall between the kitchen and dining table . Please ensure that all windows and outside doors are closed whilst the AC is running to ensure it operate to maximum efficiency.
CEILING FANS
Our home is equipped with ceiling fans to help keep you cool. Each fan is operated via a switch on the wall near the sliding glass door leading to the deck.
CENTRAL HEATING
Our home has a central heating system. You will find a panel on the wall [in the lounge/bedroom/hallway/etc]. We recommend a setting of 72F which we find keeps the place sufficiently warm.
FIREPLACE
Our home has a working fireplace. We supply logs and lighting equipment. Please take extra care when using the fireplace. Especially important is to ensure that the fire is completely out before you head to bed.
KITCHEN EQUIPMENT
All manuals for the electrical equipment and appliances are in the middle draw of the unit to the left of the sink.
The Dishwasher:
It's very simple. We provide a supply of tablets - you will need to insert one into the flip box container on the inside of the dishwasher door. Then press the program button of your choice - there are a few settings which are obvious - then press the start button.
The Fridge/freezer:
You should not need to adjust any settings. If you run into any difficulties (e.g. it's not cooling efficiently) please let us know.
The Garbage Disposal:
This is the most tricky of all the kitchen appliances. The garbage disposal is not wired to a switch. If you want to use it, simply plug the cord into the outlet underneath the sink. It will run as long as it is plugged in. When you are done using it, simply unplug it.
LAUNDRY APPLIANCES
We have a washer and separate dryer located in the basement utility room next to the bathroom. There is a supply of detergent for your use in the cabinet above the washing machine. To operate the machines, simply select the program you want, place the detergent in machine, close the door, and pull the dial towards you to start.
ENJOYING YOUR TIME INSIDE
BOARD GAMES / PLAYING CARDS
You will find playing cards in the drawers on the shelf next to the dining room table. Also, there are a bunch of children’s toys underneath the sleeping bench area.
BOOKS
There is a variety of books on the shelf in the upstairs bedroom with all the bunk beds.
BREAKAGES
We understand that sometimes accidents happen! Should you break anything please let us know immediately - if it's minor we usually won't charge. If it's a larger issue (e.g. the TV screen!) we would like to agree the cost with you before you leave to avoid any issues later. Thank you!

You will find a supply of beach towels in the cupboards in the basement.

All of the deck furniture should be out on both decks upon arrival.
